I am worried about my family’s ability to pay tuition. What can I do?
Our Finance Office has been working tirelessly to design and roll out an emergency tuition fund to provide grants to families affected by the coronavirus. A letter with details and instructions was sent via email on May 1, 2020. Dominican Academy remains acutely aware of the economic uncertainty facing the country. We recognize that this uncertainty may be prolonged, making it impossible to understand if and how it will have an impact on the different members of our community. In light of the current climate, Dominican Academy has decided to open our financial aid application system with no closing date. If your circumstances change during year, we will evaluate your financial situation at that time and make as generous of an offer as we can.
When do I have to pay tuition?
The first tuition payment date is July 15, 2020. As a reminder, all payments going forward will be made directly through FACTS, our online tuition management system. If you have not yet done so, it is very important that you create an account with FACTS, our tuition management system ASAP. Once you have created an account, the Finance Office can manually enter your previous payments and any tuition reductions.
I have questions about financial aid. What should I do?
Please contact Chief Finance Officer, Mr. Terence Kannengieser by email and he will be sure to help you.
While we will be unable to do in-person measurements this year, you can check out the Flynn O’Hara website and enter our school name to view and order all uniform items. Be sure to refer to the list we distributed at registration, or to contact Ms. Metzler with questions or for recommendations. Uniforms ordered online before June will be mailed to your home and will arrive in time for the start of school.
D.A. SUMMER CONNECTION: Unfortunately, we will be unable to host our summer camp this year. This decision comes from an abundance of caution and in response to Mayor DiBlasio’s cancelling of public activities in the month of June. There’s no need to worry, however; we will have an extended in-person orientation for new students the first week of school that will cover all the information she will need for a smooth transition. Your daughter won’t have any trouble getting comfortable and making new friends!
MATH FUNDAMENTALS, June 15-26th, 10-11 AM: We will still host the Math FUNdamentals course virtually using our distance learning system. Math FUNdamentals is a course for students who will take Algebra in the 9th grade and who wish to strengthen their math skills. The original dates and times have been adjusted slightly—the program will now run on weekdays from June 15th - 26th from 10:00-11:00 AM daily via Zoom. We want to be sure that our students are able to receive the support they need so that they can hit the ground running in September! The cost for the program is $150. Please click here to complete your daughter's registration and submit the class fee.
ATHLETICS ORIENTATION: All new students who plan to participate in Athletics at D.A. should plan to attend our Athletics Orientation this summer, date TBA.
Typically, Varsity Soccer and Volleyball tryouts take place in the last week of August or first week of September. As of now, we anticipate that these events will take place; however, we will continue to monitor this situation and will abide by state and local recommendations to make sure our return to school is safe and smooth.
When is the first day of school? We hope to announce this date soon. We are closely monitoring the current health situation and will abide by state and local recommendations to make sure our return to school is safe and smooth. As always, the safety of our D.A. community is the paramount concern. The best way to stay informed is to check the homepage of our website, where we post up-to-date information as it comes to us.
What should I bring? You should bring something to write with, a notebook, a snack, and some pocket money ($10) for the First Day of School. On that day, you will receive your planner, lots of forms, your class schedule, and your locker and lock.
What do I wear? Expect to wear your full Summer or Winter Uniform, including blazer. Details about the Freshman Welcome Mass and Picture Day will be included in the Beginning of School mailing in August.
What supplies do I need? Check below for a list of required supplies for Freshmen.
How will I get my uniform? Uniform orders should be placed directly through the Flynn O'Hara website. Orders will be mailed to your home in August before the beginning of school. If you would like to view uniform items or have questions about your order, please contact Flynn O'Hara Uniforms.
When will I get my new student ID? All new students will receive a D.A. ID card a few weeks into the new school year. This can be used for entrance into the building, checking books from the library, admittance to school dances, etc. and should be kept safe and secure. School picture day will take place in September.
