For 111 years, Dominican Academy has educated and challenged young women of New York City in the tradition of St. Dominic. Our strong Catholic identity, small environment, commitment to service, demanding curriculum, and unique educational setting truly makes Dominican Academy a jewel of a school.
Philanthropy plays a crucial role in upholding this tradition. While our small class size is invaluable, it poses a challenge for fundraising, as we rely heavily on parents and alumnae to help us meet our goals. In addition, since we are committed to keeping tuition affordable, this source only covers 76% of the school’s total operating budget. It is because of this that we ask our entire community to take part in our fundraising initiatives.
The Annual Fund is essential, as it bridges the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a Dominican Academy education. Each year, the Annual Fund helps make our priorities a reality. Your 2006-2007 support through the Annual Fund allowed us to repair several serious leaks in the building, repair and renovate the woodwork and ironwork throughout provide scholarships for incoming freshman, purchase 20 new computers and last, but certainly not least, provide professional development and incentives for our first-rate faculty.
With guidance from the Board of Trustees, the Development Office works year-round to provide numerous opportunities to give back, including the Board of Trustees Reception and Silent Auction. The Parents Association also sponsors fundraising events that offer immeasurable support to the school. Our latest all-family event was the inaugural Golf Outing that took place in September.
The generosity of the entire Dominican Academy family allows us to honor tradition, while at the same time advance the school’s mission well into the future. We thank you for making that happen.
